ONLINE SHOPPING MALL Amazon will launch its Kindle tablet in the UK in January, according to reports.
According to Channel 5's The Gadget Show, a source inside Amazon UK has revealed that the bookseller will miss the Christmas sales period in the UK but will launch the Kindle Fire next month. The Amazon Appstore, which we are also waiting for here in Blighty, wasn't mentioned.
No exact launch date has been touted just yet and UK pricing hasn't been announced. Amazon's tablet costs $199 (£127) in the US, but it is likely that UK pricing will be slightly higher.
The Kindle Fire launched in the US on 15 November. Amazon announced the launch of the $199 Kindle Fire on 28 September and made the device available for pre-order immediately on its web site.
The Kindle Fire - a 7in IPS ultra-wide display, dual-core processor tablet - weighs 14.6oz and runs a customised version of Android. All of the content on the device is backed up in the cloud so users can delete things when they want. Content available will include 100,000 movies and TV shows, a million songs, apps from the Amazon Appstore and magazines.
When it launched the Kindle Fire, Amazon also launched a $79 Kindle that is not a touchscreen device and is 30 per cent lighter than the original Kindle at 5.98oz.
We don't know whether the latest rumours are true, and we've contacted Amazon for a response. µ
