Google might take on Amazon with an online retail service

It is in talks with retailers

SOFTWARE DEVELOPER Google is considering a move into online retail, challenging Amazon by providing low cost goods.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Google is in talks with major retailers and shippers about creating a service to let consumers shop for goods online and receive their orders within a day for a low fee.

The move would challenge Amazon Prime, which offers two day shipping at no extra charge with other benefits, for a $79 yearly fee. We'd still rather wait an extra day for super saver delivery, thanks.

Amazon is well established and obviously has been around for a long time, so we're sure it isn't too scared.

However, if anyone is going to challenge the retail web site's dominance, it will be Google, which has its finger in a lot of pies as well as the financial backing to make it work. µ

Super saver sucks

You forgot the key point about the "super saver delivery": you need a minimum purchase amount to apply.

I got prime because it enables me to buy small things for that "free" shipping so that I don't have to consolidate my purchases into one, or suffer the cost of shipping. It ends up saving me money some times, for things like buying computer hardware compared to getting dinged at a place like New Egg. Beware that they raise the price on some stuff because of the "free" shipping.

Swet

Google will take over anything, just like it defeated Apple.
