VIDEO GIANT Youtube has launched a redesigned interface for its web site with Facebook-esque feeds.
The home page has a new look and is split into three sections vertically. Apart from a spruced up look there is a more social feel to it in its integration with web sites including Google+, Twitter and Facebook.
Youtube said, "We've given YouTube a refresh. When you log in, you'll be greeted with recent activity from your subscriptions. You can also browse and add new Channels to your homepage. Connect with Google+ and Facebook to share your favourites with friends."
The look is cleaner and simpler, with a consistent grey background and redesigned elements such as larger thumbnail images.
The left hand side of the web page displays your subscribed channels, social networking web sites and suggestions for videos. You can get a general Facebook-esque feed that combines all of your channels or focus on one by clicking on it.
In a fashion reminiscent of Twitter you can see what videos and channels are trending. Channels can be customised with new templates and the overall idea is that users can personalise the web site to their own tastes. Overall, this looks like an improvement, so we'll applaud it. µ

You can try digging for its figures. Seems will either lose $200M or gain $250M (don't recall whether quarter or year), that's all they'll say.
In light of its supposed popularity, that pretty much says that the Youtube "business model" isn't working.
But they do track users and sell YOUR eyeballs on ads, along with direct Google tie-in.
To view anything over PG13, one has to sign in, a curiously strange requirement on the Internet, isn't it? Kind of quaint. Like A$, Youtube is your net-nanny, censoring what you view by first wagging a finger in your face.
