AN UNOFFICIAL fix for the volume bug that is plaguing Samsung's Galaxy Nexus smartphone has been leaked.
The release has not been sanctioned by Samsung or Google and comes from one of the founders of the Modaco forum.
To download the fix you will need the bootloader unlocked by using "./fastboot-windows oem unlock", making sure you note that the OEM unlock sequence wipes your device.
First, put your device in bootloader mode and turn off the phone, then turn on with the 'volume up' and 'volume down' buttons both pressed to enter the bootloader.
For Windows, double click 'install-windows.bat'. On a Mac, open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-mac.sh' followed by './install-mac.sh'. For Linux, open a terminal window to the directory containing the files and type 'chmod +x install-linux.sh' followed by './install-linux.sh'.
On Friday, Samsung confirmed that there is a volume drop problem with its Galaxy Nexus smartphone.
The problem seems to be related specifically to the 900MHz frequency used by O2 and Vodafone. We have had a Galaxy Nexus smartphone in the office for a while now and have found that there are problems with the volume when the phone is switched to 2G.
We are unable to hear the phone ring during incoming calls, and are not alerted when a text is sent. However, we can hear the person on the other end when we answer the silent call.
The device debuted the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich when it launched earlier this month. µ

Unlike some fruity company that was telling us that "we're holding it wrong".
And since it is an unofficial hack, there is even less of a chance that the fruity co. would even allow such "modification".
