SOFTWARE CHURN ARTIST Microsoft claims to have slashed installation times for Windows 8.
Christa St. Pierre, part of Microsoft's Setup and Deployment Team claimed the firm has managed to trim significant fat from Windows 8's installation procedure, requiring fewer clicks and shorter install time. According to St. Pierre, a clean install of Windows 8 should take just 21 minutes, compared to 32 minutes for Windows 7.
Microsoft is particularly proud of the speed-up it claims to have achieved when users migrate applications and data from previous installations. In this area St. Pierre admitted Windows 7 wasn't particularly good, saying, "If you had a large number of files on your system, you may have seen that installation times in Windows 7 didn't scale very well."

Along with removing bloat, Microsoft has also announced that it will offer users the chance to download Windows 8 and install it much like any other application. St. Pierre said, "While we will continue to offer boxed DVDs, we are also making it easier than ever to purchase and install online. This includes starting the setup experience online as well, and having one continuous integrated experience from beginning to end."
For system administrators, Microsoft will also have an automated setup where the product key can be automatically injected. St. Pierre also mentioned a tool that will allow administrators to customise a bootable USB drive to automate Windows 8 installation.
Microsoft has said Windows 8 should require the same machine specifications as Windows 7, so the firm can't expect users will buy new PCs pre-loaded with Windows 8 and thus needs to make the upgrade procedure as easy as possible if it intends to sell many copies of its upcoming operating system. µ

I'm guessing no, meaning that if I install Linux and then install Windows 8, I probably won't be given an opportunity to keep the Linux install pristine and Windows 8 will just go ahead and trash Linux. This is despite the fact that Linux doesn't return the favor.
Better still: I shall cut my installation time for Windows 8 to zero.
nb - LINUX is not free unless your time has no value.
And in the corporate world, Linux actually costs significantly more to license for support than the equivalent Windows Server version does...
Very funny joke. Or breath taking ignorance.
Lets look at the fact shall we? (Thanks to Secunia.Org)
Windows 7 about 180 vulnerabilities
Windows XP about 450 vulnerabilities
OSX about 1600 vulnerabilities
SUSE Enterprise 10, over 3500 vulnerabilities!!!
And most importantly if you are running LINUX as an internet facing system, you stand a MUCH higher chance of being hacked:

That's not the issue. The issue is that no matter what the article is on Microsoft you always get at least one person who tries to extol the virtues of Linux. The problem is that the majority of people just don't have any interest in Linux. It's an excellent OS and is very adaptable but it will always be server or embedded OS.
I have an Android phone and love it but I don't feel the need to bash apple after every article I read about them, and I really really hate Apple!
Yes I guess I am a Linux troll. First if you like Microsoft that is your choice and if you like it it's fine with me.
My problem is I hate paying for something I don't want nor do I even know how much I am paying for it on on a notebook etc. Yes I can and do build my my own desktops but try to buy a notebook without MS. It is the world's biggest monopoly and they get away with it. Not to mention DRM they spy on you and call home every few weeks. While they have gotten better at security it has a long way to go to suit me. There sole motive is profit, not making the best os.If and when I have a choice of not having to pay for something I don't want I will stop complaining.
I am also a certified MS tech and just plain don't think much of Microsoft. In fact they have done more to hurt technology that to help it grow in my mind. Now that many people are getting a taste of Linux and it's flexibility in Android, I just hope they see they do have a choice. And Linux is just plain better to me. I admit I don't like everything, like Ubuntu,s Unity. But it's simple to add Gnome shell. I guess I prefer freedom over Corporate greed.
Why does every article about Microsoft have to be followed by the Linux Trolls?
Of course I suppose this is the year of Linux on the desktop, again. You trolls have only been repeating that mantra for the last 20 years or so...
At least with the 2007 version, I suppose still can with later. Anyway, takes about 20 minutes on medium hardware and you have entertainment if on the net, as compared to its contemporary M$ XP, over an hour of sheerly grinding while it puts up wildly optimistic completion times. So unless W8 allow you to browse the web while installing, it's hopelessly 20th century.
Installation is only a matter of copying a huge bunch of files, selecting a few based on hardware, and writing a few text files for configuration. But of course M$ manages to turn that simple process bizarre and complex: it's all a SHOW to put over the illusion that M$ products are worth the money.
well except for the one guy using linux on his desktop...

It's good for the rest of the world.
There is Linux. Free. Better. More secure.
I trust Microsoft about as much as would a pit viper. At least some shake there tale before they BITE.
