Anonymous updates on Fawkes virus

HACKTIVIST GROUP Anonymous is finished fiddling with the Fawkes virus, which it says is now ready to wreak havoc at Facebook and other social networking web sites.

The group first mentioned the Fawkes virus earlier this month to some scepticism from security researchers, some of whom thought that it was a hoax. Anonymous never denied this, but it has revisited the virus, explaining in a post at Tumblr that it is ready for use.

"Greetings Citizens of the world," it says, "Remember the 'Fawkes Backdoor Virus' on facebook. It's [sic] beta testing has completed and now is fully operational. It will be released on other social networks also."

The message is aimed at the corrupt, and the message suggests that with the virus Anonymous will be able to take over computers and turn them against its enemies.

"When corruption and lies are attached with the system and they function as one evil form of power, even the machines will side with The people," it says. "We are moving towards the new system of political and social functioning and governance in this world. We are moving very rapidly towards achieving that goal."

Having access to Facebook and its members accounts, which is what the Fawkes virus is supposed to provide, will give Anonymous access to more information about its victims, it added.

"The corrupt fear us, the honest support us, the heroic work with us. We are watching you all and your machines are working for us. You cannot run from us, we have your personal data, we have your psychological profiles."

Project Mayhem 2012 is codenamed 'Tyler', and we guess that this is named after the character in Fight Club who ran an anarchistic campaign. Tyler's first rule, of course, would be that you don't talk about Project Mayhem.
