CANADIAN GADGET MAKER RIM has been sued over the name of its latest operating system before it has even released any devices running BBX.
According to Reuters, New Mexico firm Basis International Ltd has filed a lawsuit against RIM to stop the firm from using Basis' trademark, which is BBX.
Basis had threatened in October to take legal action against RIM unless it stopped calling its operating system BBX.
Basis CEO Nico Spence said in a statement, "Basis built the BBX brand over the course of a quarter of a century to become synonymous with the term 'operating system independent'."
"RIM's unilateral seizure of that brand to use as a name for their new BlackBerry operating system is destroying that association."
The INQUIRER recently reported that RIM has a BBX powered smartphone in the works called the Blackberry London, and a photo and its specifications have been leaked.
The phone apparently will tip up in June next year and will be the first to run the firm's BBX operating system that is based on QNX. The specifications look good for a high end device, with a Texas Instruments dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, an 8MP rear facing camera and a 2MP front facing camera. µ
If it's used to refer to "BlackBerry QNX", why don't they take the first letter of QNX rather than the last one?... Ah sorry I tried and I'm still laughing!!! :)
