Sony Ericsson details its Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update

For the entire 2011 Xperia line

SMARTPHONE MAKER Sony Ericsson has announced details of the upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS).

The firm spoke earlier of its plans to upgrade its handsets to the 'next Android platform' and has now confirmed that its entire range will get the latest version. The entire 2011 Xperia line will get ICS but Sony Ericsson has given no time frame for the rollout.

Sony Ericsson said on its blog, "We are working on merging our current Xperia experience with the new features in Android 4.0. More detailed information regarding this upgrade, timing and global availability will be communicated in due course here on the blog."

Confirmed devices include the Xperia Arc, Arc S, Play, Neo, Neo V, Mini, Mini Pro, Active and Ray. Also thrown in for good measure is the Live with Walkman.

Motorola told us that the recently launched Razr will get the upgrade in the first quarter of next year so that gives a good benchmark for when others might tip up. µ

Have they learnt their lesson?

After the whole X10 fiasco I hope they've learnt some valuable lessons. Their version of 2.3.3 is bug ridden, feels very rushed and took months to rollout to carriers.
