First RIM BBX smartphone gets leaked

CANADIAN GADGET MAKER Research in Motion (RIM) has a BBX powered smartphone in the works called the Blackberry London, and a photo and its specifications have been leaked.

The phone apparently will tip up in June next year and will be the first to run the firm's BBX operating system that is based on QNX, according to The Verge. The specifications look good for a current high end device, with a Texas Instruments dual-core 1.5GHz processor.

There will be 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, an 8MP rear facing camera and a 2MP front facing camera. It will be thinner than the Iphone 4, which is 9.3mm thick, and the same size as Samsung's Galaxy S II. This suggests that it could have the same 4.3in screen size as the Samsung Galaxy S II. It will indeed be touchscreen only like we reported last week.

The design is, er, different, and the handset supposedly can be stood up on its side edges. It certainly looks divergent from the firm's existing handsets, two of which it announced earlier today. It does look similar to the Porsche designed Blackberry P'9981.

As you can see the operating system looks similar to that of the firm's Playbook tablet that runs QNX. In the photo there are multiple open apps and there's an app tray at the bottom. The handset pictured is apparently a dummy phone so it wasn't fully working.

It's a decent amount of information about this upcoming RIM smartphone but we'll have to wait for real thing to find out for sure. µ
