HP CTO announces retirement

CONFUSED PC MAKER HP has lost its CTO as yet another top executive announced his retirement from the firm.

HP personal systems group CTO Phil McKinney said on his blog that "this is not the traditional retirement", as he will be focusing on the launch of his first book as well as teaching "Killer Innovation Workshops". He will leave HP at the end of December.

During his nine years at HP, McKinney was a part of and led teams that delivered innovations including: Blackbird, Firebird, Envy 133, Gabble, Twynergy, Pluribus, Vantage TouchWall, and DreamScreen.

McKinney said, "I'm also excited that once again, I will be able to take on board seats, advisory roles and mentoring opportunities since I will no longer have to worry about conflict of interest and other corporate restrictions."

Less than two weeks ago HP lost another executive as its chief strategy and technology officer announced his retirement.

Shane Robison steps down from the role he has held at HP for 11 years today (1 November) and will not be replaced.

In September, HP abruptly removed controversial CEO Leo Apotheker from his corner office and replaced him with Meg Whitman. µ
