Google's Chrome 15 update fixes bugs

Tabs page added to Chrome web browser

SOFTWARE DEVELOPER Google has released Chrome 15, an updated stable version of its stripped-down web browser.

The release adds features and fixes a large number of bugs. In a blog post Google said that the updated browser will help users be more sociable through the ability to share media and documents, and more fun through games and online apps.

The Chrome Tab page has been totally redesigned and in a video the firm showed off how easy it is to access and organise web pages, and most importantly, apps like Angry Birds.

"We hope this will help you quickly scan the store and find interesting things to try out. In addition, apps and extensions are easier to install-just hover over an image on the grid and click 'Add to Chrome'," said Shannon Guymon, product manager at Google.

"Getting additional information about an app or an extension is just a click away. When you click on an app, extension or theme, you'll see a panel featuring screenshots, videos and other relevant information neatly organized into separate tabs."

The announcement includes some slightly more technical information about Chrome 15.

The comments below the update announcement are not particularly kind to Google, however, as some users complain that the release isn't actually very stable.

"Im not liking Google Chrome 15...," says one user. "I hate the new tab page that can't be edited, I don't want people to see the most visited webpages... and can't remove it, neither my applications =/".

"Five or six crashes in less than an hour, after been very stable for months. I hope my automatically generated crash reports will help," adds another.

Some people will be happy though, at least those security researchers that were paid bounties for bringing problems to Google's attention. The firm paid out its highest bounty total for this release and prizes ranged from $500 to over $6,000. µ

Stay with what works

I think Google should stay in the search
engine biz, something they do quite well.

I used (read: tried to use) Chrome for
about an hour and then simply trashed it.

Firefox has browsing nailed. Google will
never match them.
