FRUIT THEMED GADGET SELLER Apple's Ipad 2 has a security flaw that allows would-be snoopers to unlock the tablet without a password.

Anyone with a Smart Cover can break into a "password-protected" Ipad 2, as we show in our video. The person who unlocks the device has access to anything that was on the screen before it was locked, including email, messages, and settings.

To recreate the problem, we locked the password protected device, held down the power button until it reached the turn off slider, closed Smart Cover, opened Smart Cover and clicked cancel on the bottom of the screen.

However we found that the problem was inconsistent, and did not crop up every single time we tried to recreate it.

This issue is not just confined to IOS 5, since IOS 4.3 also exhibits the vulnerability. µ

Choose between two poisons...

If you lock-up your devices tighter than a drum, then the honest person (yes, they exist...) can't open the device to contact you or your friends to help return it to you.

There really should be a "Finder Press Here - Reward!" icon on the Lock Screen.

Boiled down

So I later realized after my first comment that people aren't worried their ipad is nicked, but they are worried it might get swiped.

So the short term fix

Is simply to go to settings and turn off cover lock/unlock. Tricky one that.

Access to search

It actually. Gives access to the search engine so pretty much any of your data. It also gives access to application deletion... It needs a fix asap

What I gather from this.

So you can leave an ipad unattended in britain without it being nicked? Amazing stuff! :)
