Google opens Android Movies to the UK

ONLINE SEARCH GIANT Google has opened its film rental service for Android users in the UK.

The Movie section of the Android Market has gone live for UK users. It offers thousands of film titles to rent over a WiFi or 3G connection.

Films start at £2.49 including The Bank Job, Reservoir Dogs and Harry Potter. More recent titles such as Green Lantern and Senna cost £3.49.

To rent a film you'll need to be on Android, of course, and download the free Videos app from the Android Market. Films can be downloaded to your device for offline viewing.

For the most part you get a 30 days period to start watching a film after you buy it. Once you've started you have 24 hours to watch the film. You can watch it as many times as you like in the 24 hour period.

As well as watching on an Android smartphone or tablet, there's also the option of watching on your TV via an HDMI cable or computer.

Sony has launched a rival service on its Sony Entertainment Network. The Sony media streaming facility offers both films and music. µ
