AN UNNAMED TEXAS-BASED actress is suing the the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) for posting her correct age and potentially harming her career.
The actress, known only as Jane Doe, is looking for a payout of $1m from the company, which published her age after she signed up to its IMDB Pro service.
The actress signed up for the service in 2008 and shortly afterwards noticed that her birth date and age had been published. Shocked by this, she asked the firm to remove the details, which it refused to do, reports the Associated Press.
Seeing no other option, and concerned about the impact this might have on her work, she filed the lawsuit, which argues that by the time actresses hit 40 they are virtually unemployable.
"If one is perceived to be 'over-the-hill', i.e., approaching 40, it is nearly impossible for an up-and-coming actress, such as the plaintiff, to get work as she is thought to have less of an 'upside'," reads the lawsuit, "therefore, casting directors, producers, directors, agents-manager, etc. do not give her the same opportunities, regardless of her appearance or talent."
Being over 40, or near 40, is not her only problem, apparently, as Jane Doe is so young looking that she cannot get roles for 40 year old women.
"Plaintiff has experienced rejection in the industry for each '40-year-old' role for which she has interviewed because she does not and cannot physically portray the role of a 40-year-old woman," the lawsuit says, as it suggests that she would be better off if no one ever knew how old she was.
For now all we know is that she lives in Texas, is of Asian descent and has an Americanised stage name. Whether she ever becomes a household name depends on whether IMDB stops publishing her age, apparently, or more likely, when someone makes a film-for-television movie about her story. µ

IF SHE CANT TAKE A REGULAR PAYING JOB THEN THAT CLEARLY INDICATES THERE ISNT ENOUGH PIRACY DEMOLISHING THAT PARTICULAR INDUSTRY.
AS WELL, ENTERTAINERS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE 1 STEP REMOVED FROM HOMELESSNESS, THATS WHAT HISTORY TEACHES US.
I feel I cannot function at full capacity while this injustice is going on, please send me $50K compensation IMDB.
She should sue her parents for not keeping her in the womb for an extra 20 years.
Stupid bitch.
I used to have a similar problem. When I was younger I needed to show my ID in order to get a date. Getting older: female close to my age complaint that "You make me look old" and on the other hand younger ladies when they found out how old I really was dumped me immediately. Now it's much easier: nobody wants to have a son with me - I'm way too old...let's see if this is impossible to even God Himself!
There is Jane Doe (I) - Jane Doe (X) at IMDB im surprised if someone even finds here with that name.
Doesn't this name usually mean *anonymous* anyway, not good if you want to get known :-)
Nothing like raising one's profile.
Maybe she cannot find roles because she's not really that talented. Or because she's not really that pretty. Or maybe she does look 40-ish after all but she's deluding herself, thinking she looks 20. Lost of people do.
Or maybe there just isn't such a large market for Asian actors in a country where Asians are a minority, and not even the most numerous one.
Or maybe the recession has something to do with fewer movies being made.
Or maybe the fact that she sends resumes with a Caucasian-sounding name but looks Asian at interviews makes interviewers not trust her enough to give her a chance. If I claim to speak French on my resume, but can't speak it at the interview, I don't get the job either.
I think she needs a head shrink, fast.
