US PHONE MAKER Motorola will launch its Razr handset in the UK on 1 November, according to the Clove web site.

The device, called the Droid Razr in the US, will cost around £454.80. Those who are interested can register for updates on Motorola's UK web site.

The Razr was launched in the US last night and a UK press event is taking place today. It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread so it doesn't yet have the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system release that Google has launched with Samsung's Galaxy Nexus smartphone.

motorolarazrpicThe Razr has LTE for Verizon in the US, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, an 8MP camera with HD 1080p video capture and a 4.3in Super AMOLED qHD touchscreen display.

Meanwhile, it's just 7.1mm thick, perhaps the thinnest smartphone ever made.

It has laminated construction for enhanced rigidity and a precision machined stainless steel core. The back is made from woven kevlar and it has an 1800mAh battery that delivers 12.5 hours of talk time.

Whether this phone will be as successful as Motorola's 2005 flagship device, the original Razr, will depend on how well it fares against the competition. Samsung and Apple have just announced new handsets and Motorola has been losing traction, especially in the UK market. µ
