CHIP VENDOR Intel is rather pleased with itself having announced record revenues and results in its latest financials.
Net income for the quarter was $3.5bn, an increase of 17 per cent against the same quarter last year.
"Intel delivered record-setting results again in Q3, surpassing $14bn in revenue for the first time, driven largely by double-digit unit growth in notebook PCs," said Paul Otellini, Intel president and CEO.
"We also saw continued strength in the datacentre fueled by the ongoing growth of mobile and cloud computing."
Intel's PC business saw revenues increase by 22 per cent to $9.4bn, datacentre operations increased by 15 per cent to $2.5bn, and its architecture group increased by 68 per cent.
The firm's Atom microprocessor and chipset revenues fell however by 32 per cent to $269m. This is likely a reflection of the growth of tablet computers, such as the Apple Ipad, and the demise of the netbook where the Atom traditionally found a home. µ
