Helps find lost Macs

SOFTWARE DEVELOPER Apple has released Mac OS X 10.7.2, bringing several security updates and Icloud support.

Apple recommends that all Mac OS X 10.7 users download the update, which includes the many security updates present in Safari 5.1.1 and delivers support for Apple's Icloud service.

With Apple's Mac OS X update, users can now store a whole heap of private data on Apple's servers including email, calendars, contacts, Safari bookmarks and reading lists. The service will then push all this data to the user's other devices.

Apple also has a remote viewing service through Icloud allowing other Mac users remote access, and rather curiously a "Find My Mac" service that helps fanbois get repatriated with their Macs by showing its location on a map. One has to wonder why this is necessary, given that Apple fanbois and their shiny toys are usually inseparable.

Apart from Apple's large security update to Safari, it has patched vulnerabilities in BIND, PHP, Quicktime, Tomcat and other services with the update.

Apple also released a Mac OS X Server 10.7.2 update, with the firm claiming reliability improvements to calendar, mail, Open Directory and the PostgreSQL database server.

Apple has made the updates available through its Software Update service, while the full manual update can be acquired by downloading the 770MB file. µ
