Apple wins a Samsung ban in Australia

Another temporary win

FRUIT THEMED Apple's lawyers have struck a blow against consumer choice and competition by securing a temporary ban on the Samsung Galaxy 10.1in tablet in Australia.

An Australian court issued a preliminary ban on the Samsung tablet after Apple lawyers argued that it is a bit too similar to the Ipad.

According to Reuters the Australian Federal court ruled that Samsung has a case to answer on two of Apple's touchscreen patents, and the judge was happy to approve the pre-Christmas sales ban that the American firm was so keen on seeking.

"I am satisfied that it is appropriate to grant an interim injunction, however I propose again the opportunity of an early final hearing on the issues presented in this application," Justice Annabelle Bennett told the parties in court.

A final ruling on the patent infringement allegations is still expected and the judge gave Samsung the opportunity to speed this up. However, the firm declined and instead chose to give itself longer to prepare its arguments. µ
