Cyber crime could become a primary form of war

CYBER CRIME is likely to become the primary form of war, Moustafa Mahmoud, president of the Middle East Tiger Team said at the RSA Conference in London today.

He said, "I believe the day will come when cyber crime will become the primary threat. 'Win without fighting' is the Chinese philosophy and this is why I believe it's such a big deal."

Mahmoud talked about China as a big threat, where he said an "entire underground industry has formed to support cyber crime".

"It [China] has become very attractive to cyber criminals," he added.

Mahmoud said the security community needs a "new defence doctrine", moving to a more monitored approach, as prevention can often fail.

"There is no patch for human stupidity," he said, adding, "We need to look at traffic going in and out of our networks and we need to start taking action." µ
