Android apps work on IOS thanks to Alien Dalvik 2.0

Aims for a single app standard

SOFTWARE DEVELOPER Myriad has announced its Alien Dalvik 2.0 that enables Android apps to run on non-Android systems.

Probably most exciting of all is the fact that the software allows users to run Android applications on Apple products such as the Ipad 2. The firm said it also lets Android apps work on other tablets, TVs and in cars.

Myriad said, "From a user perspective, Alien Dalvik 2.0 is completely transparent and installed without user disruption. Users simply enjoy the same rich Android ecosystem they have become accustomed to via mobile on other key screens, such as playing Angry Birds on HDTV."

Alien Dalvik 2.0 apparently lets the majority of Android apps run 'unmodified' using standard Android Package (APK) files. The firm will demo the system working on an Ipad 2 for the first time as next week's CTIA Enterprise & Applications conference in San Diego.

An advantage is that developers can create apps for the Android operating system without being limited to devices running on Android. Myriad sees it as "the first step towards creating a single app standard".

Simon Wilkinson, CEO of Myriad said, "Alien Dalvik 2.0 provides a great alternative to OEMs and service providers who want to harness the Android ecosystem, while leveraging existing investments and retaining control of their customer experience." µ
