THE ANONYMOUS COLLECTIVE appears to have split over a video that called for an invasion of Wall Street and threatened to wipe the New York Stock Exchange from the internet.

In a video posted online the hacktivist group, or at least a part of the group, set out threats that would take the Occupy Wall Street protests a step further and add hacker attacks.

"We can no longer stay silent as the population is being exploited and forced to make sacrifices in the name of profit. We will show the world that we are true to our word," said the video narrator. "On October 10, NYSE shall be erased from the Internet, expect a day that will never, ever, be forgotten."

A flier was released to accompany the video and has appeared on the internet and around Wall Street. It added that users should download the Low Orbit Ion Cannon software used by the group and urged that they "spread the f**king word".

The video has the support of the Anon_Central Twitter account, and was recommended for viewing by one of its tweeters. "Operation #InvadeWallStreet - A Message to the Media," it said before linking to the video. "Be assured, it's going down! #OccupyEverything #Anonymous."

However, another account associated with the group took a different approach, and claimed that the group will not hack the financial businesses that it is protesting.

"We'll say it clear: We won't hack Wall Street. Please FBI invest the resources in better things!" said the Anonops account before adding, "Don't get roped in by those who want 2 see #occupywallstreet fail."

Update
The separation between members of the group has become more apparent, as two Twitter accounts appear to be disagreeing.

In a Tweet, Anoncentral asked, "So protesting against Mastercard, Visa, PayPal is not a terrorist threat but protesting against NYSE is a terrorist threat? Explain Anonops." That account has not replied yet, but a statement on Pastebin puts more distance between the two camps.

"We are Anonymous! Recently something very disturbing has come to our attention. You must take all notices and information claiming to be 'Anonymous' with a grain of salt. Consider EVERYTHING," it says.

"Operation Invade Wall Street is bullshit! It is a fake planted operation by law enforcement and cyber crime agencies in order to get you to undermine the Occupy Wall Street movement. It proposes you use depreciated tools that have known flaws such as LOIC. Anonymous would never tell you to use LOIC - Not after the arrests and failures of Operation Payback...

Anonymous wouldn't attack NYSE on a HOLIDAY (Columbus Day) - It is debatable if Anonymous would ever even attack NYSE." µ
