UK TELECOMS FIRM BT is struggling to restore internet services across the country after a power failure in Birmingham.
The power failure that happened earlier today has created problems across the UK, and has affected BT customers in areas as far flung as Belfast, Edinburgh, Swansea and London, according to the BBC.
A note on the BT service status pages reveals little information under its "Problems connecting to broadband" listing, and refers users to a helpline.
"I'm sorry but we have a broadband problem which is preventing customers from connecting to the internet," it says. "We are working hard to fix this but if you want more information on this problem please call the service status line 0800 169 0199."
Calling that BT helpline delivers you to a recorded message that pretty much repeats the information displayed on BT's web site. It says that engineers are working hard to fix remaining problems, which it suggests are mostly affecting business customers.
In a statement BT told the BBC about the same thing again, except it added one classic suggestion that is sure to be enjoyed in IT departments up and down the country.
"Should any customers continue to experience difficulty in accessing their broadband service, they are advised to turn their Hub or modem off and on again." µ
