Google won’t 'screw up' Android
INTERNET SEARCH GIANT Google does not intend to make a mess of Android after it invests billions in buying Motorola Mobility, according to its chairman.
Eric Schmidt told a Bloomberg television interviewer that the firm is committed to Android, which is no surprise, and will avoid spoiling its relations with its existing partners.
"The Android ecosystem is the [number one] priority, and... we won't do anything with Motorola, or anybody else by the way, that would screw up the dynamics of that industry," Schmidt said.
"We need strong, hard competition among all the Android players. We won't play favorites in the way people are concerned about."
It wasn't all puff either, as Schmidt also took the opportunity to say that the 17,000 patents that it gets out of the deal will help "bulk up" its intellectual property portfolio.
"From our perspective, we will end up having enough patents that we can end up with a rough truce with everybody else, which is how it's done," he said. "That's been the pattern in all other industries, and I'd expect something similar in ours." µ

Make Motorola support their phones better. Faster updates to new versions of Android and longer support for older phones. Lead the industry by example. Android is a mess right now and fragmentation is getting worse all the time.
So far the only Android models where you can expect support equal to e.g. Apple's are Google's Nexus phones. There's exactly two of those available and neither is up to date in terms of hardware.
