IT IS LIKELY that Google and Samsung will announce the Samsung Nexus Prime handset on 11 October, after the two sent out invitations for an event.
According to the Telegraph, the companies said that they will reveal "what's new from Android" on 11 October at an event in San Diego in the US.
It will be the first time Google has launched an Android operating system for both tablets and smartphones.
Earlier this month we reported some of the possible specifications of Google's upcoming Nexus Prime smartphone.
The Nexus Prime apparently looks like the Samsung Galaxy S II but has a curved screen like the Nexus S.
With a metal body it's reportedly quite weighty at around 130g, but is only 8.8mm thick.
The Nexus Prime will run on Samsung's 1.5GHz Exynos dual-core processor and have 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, an 8MP camera and a hefty 2,000mAh battery.
The phone was running Android version 2.4.1, confirming that Ice Cream Sandwich will be Android 2.4 rather than Android 4.0. It looks like Android 2.3 Gingerbread but with a more Android 3.x Honeycomb style, glassy look.
A new feature is the ability to preview applications from the app drawer before launching them. The Gmail app can also split into two in landscape mode to show both your inbox and an email. µ

I'm hoping they make it available across all providers soon...I'd be ticked if it were only on Verizon :-P
It's true, there are many conflicting reports (mostly due to the "leaked" information from Samsung that only showed a 5MP camera, though it may have been posted purposefully to throw people off.
With all of the recent phones that have been rumored (ie. HTC Vigor, iPhone5) or released/confirmed (ie. LG LU6200, Droid Bionic) sporting 8MP cameras, it would be surprising for Samsung to release a new phone with only a 5MP camera. Also, considering the Samsung Galaxy S2a already has an 8MP camera, it would make it even more surprising that Samsung would revert back to a 5MP camera for the nexus (which may even be called the Galaxy Nexus according to some rumors).
In reality, though, I would be fine with a 5MP camera, if it took better quality photos. The Bionic has an 8MP camera, but the photo quality is awful IMHO.
How confident are you that it will have a 8mp cam on it? Im seeing conflicting reports between 5mp and 8. Would appreciate a reply. Thanks!
@Stan. Apparently that might not be true:

actually, it's going to run a Texas Instruments OMAP dual core processor.
