Amazon will unveil its tablet this week

Perfectly timed for Christmas

ONLINE RETAILER Amazon is expected to reveal its first tablet at a press conference this Wednesday.

It seems highly likely that this event will be where Amazon announces its tablet to take on Apple's Ipad, and the rest. The event will take place in New York but the company hasn't released any further details, according to Reuters.

Colin Gillis, a BGC partners analyst said, "Wednesday is tablet day."

"Knowing Amazon, it is likely to be a very aggressive price," he added.

It would certainly make sense timing-wise, with plenty of time for Amazon to get word out and start selling the tablet in time for Christmas.

Amazon could prove a threat in the tablet market, following on from the success of its Kindle e-reader and the fact it provides movie, music and book services.

The device, which possibly will also be called the Kindle, is expected to run Google's Android operating system and have a 7in touchscreen. It is expected to be priced at around $250. µ

iPad killer? Try Nook killer.

Why would you believe the Amazon tablet is intended to run in the same circles as the iPad? My money says it is a very nice ebook reader with a color screen. You may get some basic web functionality - that is about it.

Too small.

Unfortunately a 7 inch screen is just too small to read most PDFs.
