INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER (ISP) Talktalk is the most complained about broadband provider, research from industry regulator Ofcom has revealed.
Talktalk had 0.58 complaints per 1,000 broadband customers, followed by BT, Orange and Bskyb. Virgin Media had the fewest complaints according to the data from April to June this year.
Meanwhile, the most mobile complaints were about Three, while O2 was the least complained about mobile operator.
Not much has changed since Ofcom first published its report on the most complained about providers in October 2010, when Talktalk and Three also came top of the list.
Ofcom looks at providers with at least four per cent market share who generate at least 30 complaints per month. µ

@Don,
I'm no VM fanbois, and have had my fair share of problems, but....
1. Connection drops once a day - The Suberhub firmware is buggy. An updated firmware version is on the way.
If it's not a firmware issue, then you may have a local problem with the hub or your connection.
2. This doesn't sound like throttling to me, but traffic congestion.
3. Agreed about uselesness of Tech Support. I presume you don't have VM's phone service? tech support calls are free if you do.
I rarely phone nowadays. You should try posting on the VM Broadband support forums. Manned by VM tech support people - who are not from India - you tend to get a more sensible response.
Don't think BT are much better. I have infinity. Torrent are throttled 4pm to midnight during the week, and all weekend. Sorry, not throttled, I mean strangled until on the verge of death. My old Talk-talk 2meg link was faster.
Upload randomly gets the same kind of heavy throttling, which stays on for weeks on end.
The Home Hub 3 is a piece of shit which stops communicating via wireless several times a day, requiring a reboot.
And their call centre has a distinctly Indian takeaway feel to it too.
I'm on 50MB XL Virgin media broadband because BT doesn't do fibre in my area yet.
1/ Connection drops close to once a day.
2/ You'll never get 50MB because it's throttled when you need it 6pm- 12pm weekdays and all weekend. Ripoff I tell you. Youtube has difficulty loading videos sometimes. I mean common!? 50MB and you can't load a 320x youtube video?
3/ Call centre in India reading a script. Useless. And they charge you 10p/min for the privilege.
I have used tiscali broadband quite a few years ago. very bad service. so no surprise at all when i know talktalk provide broadband based on tiscali. these people do not understand internet at all.
Alex,
I think you're getting confused with Ofcom...
Still waiting for David Cameron to shut them down for being as useless as all the other waste-of-space quangos, just like he promised in his pre-election pledge.
Then I remembered - how do you know when a politician is lying? They open their mouths.
Nuff said.
I think you will find that it doesn't matter a jot what the technonoly is. TalkTalk are incapable, moronic and incomopetent.
Judging them solely on their present performance as I have experienced it, fibre would be yet another thing that the helpdesk doesn't understand and has no intention of understanding. It would be yet another thing for the billing department to comprehensively screw up.
There is no ambiguity:
TalkTalk are the pits.
They have been wittering about how sorry they are and how they'll improve for years.
Sorry is as sorry does.
Judging them purely on their actions; they don't give a shit.
There's a simpler conclusion to be made here... ADSL is rubbish. Fibre = Happier customers.
And that's their good points.
Six months of failing each month to set up a direct debit.
Four months of boneheaded incomprehension that a problem with getting FTP access to change a website is NOT an email problem.
Unfulfileld promises to "Escalate"
Promised replies never arriving.
Perhaps if they spent a little more time and effort in addressing Customer Service, rather than pandering to Mr Dunstone's whims, they'd do just a little better.
TalkTalk-Incompetent, Uncaring, Ignorant
The Carphone Wharehouse, who own Talk Talk have always oversold their services, whilst not having the infrastructure to support their aggressive sales & pricing.
They were a terrible phone provider and, when they bought Tiscali, I knew we were in for much of the same!
So Plus ca change...just waiting to swap providers..
