Nokia installs a CTO

Pastures new for Rich Green
Thu Sep 22 2011, 09:45

FINNISH PHONE MAKER Nokia has shuffled off its current CTO and replaced him with Henry Tirri.

Tirri has been appointed EVP, CTO and a member of the Nokia leadership team and reports directly to Stephen Elop. Reports that their first meeting consisted of the two men pacing and taking turns to say, "What are we gonna do?" are false and started here.

Tirri replaces Rich Green, who was something of a Meego advocate and presumably does not fit particularly well within the Microsoft subsidiary in all but shareholdings Nokia.

Tirri then will set Nokia's technology agenda for now and the future, something that we had assumed would have happened in Redmond. He comes from Nokia's Research Centre and has been at the firm for seven years.

"During his time at Nokia, Henry has provided Nokia technical leadership and challenged us to explore forward-looking technologies. In his new role, Henry will have the opportunity to make a greater impact and set the course for Nokia and our role in the mobile industry," said Nokia president, CEO and apparently Microsoft's Manchurian Candidate, Stephen Elop.

"The company would also like to thank Rich Green for the key role he played in assisting Nokia through a major transition. We wish him all the best success in his future ventures."

Rich Green, who came to Nokia last year from Sun Microsystems, is returning to the US. µ

CTO at Nokia - got to be the best job in the world

You don't have to make any decisions, the position is entirely perfunctory.

Just wait for the directives to come from the new overlords in Redmond, then forward them on in your internal email to all of you underlings (mostly low paid workers in Far East factories).

And in the meantime surf the web to keep yourself busy - brilliant!

I could do that.
