FRUIT THEMED GADGET VENDOR Apple has been granted 40 patents in China as it looks to shore up protection of its intellectual property in that country.
The cappuccino company was awarded the patents earlier this month, but details have just appeared in the local newspaper China Daily. The 40 patents were approved by China's Patent Office, it explained.
Apple gets a lot of its products pirated in China, but let's face it, who does not. Now, with added intellectual property protection it's likely that stopping knockoffs will get easier, if not less frequent.
The patents go so far as to cover the design of its stores, which we have heard have already been copied in China, and according to China Daily has seen 22 shops shut down already.
More reasonable perhaps are the other patents that protect products such as the Iphone, Ipad, Ipad Nano, Macbook Air and its mobile advertising network. The patent filings included photos of Apple products and black and white designs.
Apple is battling Samsung over potential design copying, but China, where millions of counterfeit goods are sold every year, will feature a number of harder to track down but more more obvious copyists.
Strengthening its patent protection in China is probably a very good move for Apple. µ
This is a smart move by Apple; vigorous enforcement of its a href="http://www.generalpatent.com/blog" patents /a over time has significantly contributed to the company's success. Too many U.S. companies fail to take steps to protect their IP in China and elsewhere -- which is one reason why China and some other countries have now started to become major U.S. competitors.
Apple products are made in China. An easy way to get the patents through and upheld is simply for Apple to threaten to have their products made elsewhere. India for example would love to get their hands on a slice of the Apple 'Pie' ;).
how many bureaucrats and how much a piece they had to pay off the get those patent applications through...
