DISPLAY MAKER AOC has announced a portable monitor that runs off a single USB port.
Aimed primarily at laptop users, the e1649fwu monitor only needs one USB port to draw power and video. The monitor will be available next month with a suggested price of $139.

Robert Velez, marketing manager at AOC said, "The USB Monitor showcases AOC's dedication to expanding its display offerings and using the latest technologies to come out with innovative and user friendly products,"
The USB monitor will have a 16in LED screen with 1366x768 resolution. It will pack a 50,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a response time of 5ms. A Smart Stand extends from the rear of the unit to support the monitor in landscape or portrait mode.
In an effort to make the monitor as portable as possible the firm describes it as "lightweight" and says the screen is made of hard glass for protection. It is also made from recycled materials.
Something AOC doesn't mention is how much the monitor will reduce your laptop's battery life. There doesn't seem to be the option to power the device separately from a mains supply, but of course you can always plug your laptop into a mains power supply socket if that's available.
Velez added, "The USB Monitor is ideal for business presentations, photo frame applications, multiple monitor displays and as a companion monitor for laptop and netbook users who want more out of their computer." µ
