Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 gets price tags

Undercuts Apple
Tue Sep 20 2011, 17:48

KOREAN HARDWARE GIANT Samsung has published prices of $469 and $569 for its upcoming Galaxy Tab 8.9 tablet.

The hopeful Ipad 2 killer doesn't have a launch date yet but at least it has price tags. Samsung has managed to make the device thinner than its fruit themed rival, by all of 0.2mm, and slightly cheaper too.

$469 will get you the 16GB model and an extra $100 will double that storage to 32GB, both WiFi only. The equivalent Ipad 2 models are priced at $499 and $599 so Samsung has managed to undercut Apple's prices by $30.

If Samsung manages to avoid legal action from Apple stopping it from selling the device it will come with a 1GHz dual-core processor and Android 3.1 Honeycomb with Samsung's Touchwiz interface.

Other technology will include Bluetooth, USB 2.0, a rear facing 3MP camera with flash and a 2MP front facing camera. It will also support Flash, which the Ipad 2 does not.

Samsung said, "For social networking, the Tab offers Social Hub, the pre-loaded app which organizes all your favourite sites in one, easy-to-access location." µ

THERES $300,$400 OF PARTS IN THERE!

EVEN THOUGH THEY SKIP THE KEYBOARD/HARD DRIVE/DVD BURNER/BATTERY DOOR/INTEL CPU/4GB DDR3 RAM/VIDEO CARD/MOUSEPAD/COMM PORTS/MODEM BITS FROM A LAPTOP, WHICH YOU CAN BUY LOTS OF EXCELLENT POWERFUL LAPTOPS FOR ABOUT $400, EVEN THOUGH THEY SKIP ALL THOSE PARTS, THIS THING STILL COSTS $300 TO $400 IN PARTS ALONE.
SO SELLING IT FOR $469, THEY'RE MAKING LIKE 5 BUCKS APIECE. THERE IS -NO WAY AT ALL- THEY CAN LOWER THE PRICE FROM THIS ROCK-BOTTOM LEVEL.
GUYS, IT CAN'T BE DONE.

Already has a good offering

Samsung's problem is their ineptitude in the legal department. Samsung could have owned Apple in Germany but they inept. Luckily that's only in Germany. And what's is Germany? There's a whole world out there. They are going to let one country's craptastic legal system dictate their policy? And why on earth are they trying to compete with Apple. They need to compete with each other. PERIOD. Forget Apple except to copy their features.

This tablet is excessively priced for an 8.9 inch device.
