Samsung wants to ban the Iphone 5 in Korea

Patent battle reaches new heights

THE PATENTS WAR between Apple and Samsung has reached new heights after it emerged that Samsung is trying to ban the upcoming Iphone 5 in Korea before it's even released.

According to the Korean Times, the complete ban of Apple's Iphone 5 is in retaliation to its US rival's mounting patent lawsuits against it in global markets.

A Samsung executive told the Korean Times, "Just after the arrival of the iPhone 5 here, Samsung plans to take Apple to court here for its violation of Samsung's wireless technology related patents."

He continued, "For as long as Apple does not drop mobile telecommunications functions, it would be impossible for it to sell its i-branded products without using our patents. We will stick to a strong stance against Apple during the lingering legal fights."

"We are taking different tactics since we are quite confident," said another unnamed Samsung executive.

"If Samsung wins in Germany that will give us a big breakthrough and so will other envisioned efforts against such products as the iPhone 5," he added.

Today, it also emerged that Samsung has filed a counter suit that accuses rival tablet maker Apple of wireless patent infringement in an Australian court. Samsung filed the lawsuit on 16 September with the Federal Court of Australia, New South Wales Registry, according to Reuters.

Samsung alleged that Apple has infringed seven patents in its Iphone 3G, Iphone 3GS, Iphone 4 and Ipad 2. Furthermore, the complaint stated that Apple's allegations against Samsung are invalid.

Samsung has delayed the launch of its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet by a month because of a global tit-for-tat campaign of patent litigation with Apple.

The two shiny gadget makers are suing and countersuing each other at a furious pace in about 23 countries around the globe, most recently in the UK, France and Japan. µ

Would be really funny to see Apple served some of it's own medicine.
