KOREAN ELECTRONICS MAKER Samsung has filed a lawsuit against shiny toy maker Apple in France for alleged patent infringement, it has emerged.

The complaint concerns Apple's alleged infringement of three mobile phone technology patents in its Iphone and Ipad.

The lawsuit was filed in July before a Paris district court, with the first hearing due to take place in December.

A source told AFP that the lawsuit concerns three Samsung patents relating to UMTS, a type of third generation mobile phone technology.

The complaint centres on Apple's Iphone 3G and 3GS and Iphone 4 smartphones and first and second-generation Ipads that are mobile phone capable, added the source.

Last week, The INQUIRER reported that Samsung will not be allowed to sell its Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Germany after a Duesseldorf regional court upheld a preliminary injunction.

The ban had previously been active throughout the EU except the Netherlands but the court decided later not to enforce it outside Germany.

Samsung said it would appeal the German injunction. µ

Hey Tim Cook

It's time to stop drinking champaign and start working with these Sammy copycats closely. They have no trace of shame and soon will come close to your Cupertino.

Have you seen this on Engadget:
