Honda recalls one million cars over computer issues

Vehicle systems problems

JAPANESE CAR MAKER Honda is recalling almost one million cars after discovering issues in their computer systems.

The cars include one crossover hybrid vehicle called the CR-Z in the UK. Unfortunately some of its users have got angry about its systems, and specifically the flaws in transmissions systems that can cause the wheels to turn back and forth at will.

"The problem occurs if the driver inadvertently causes the engine to stall. Depending on the IMA battery condition, temperature and electrical loads, the vehicle may start to move forwards or backwards depending on selected gear," a Honda spokesperson said in a statement released to V3.co.uk.

Although there have been no reports of accidents so far, the company seems to be acting swiftly and is ready with a fix for the 23,000 cars that are in the UK.

"Honda dealers will install a software update to the IMA motor Electronic Control Unit free of charge," added the spokesperson. "This new software will prevent the IMA motor reverse rotation. The work should take no more than half an hour."

Another problem, having to do with the automatic window systems, affects a much larger number of vehicles, 936,590 of them to be exact. While this does not appear to affect UK Honda drivers, a range of vehicles are being recalled by the company globally.

This is the second time in as many months that Honda has had to recall cars owing to problems with computer systems. In August some 2.3 million vehicles began embarrassing returns to its garages for a software fix. µ
