KOREAN ELECTRONICS MAKER Samsung has announced the launch of its Series 7 Chronos laptop at its press conference at IFA today. The device will launch at the conference tomorrow, 1 September.
The laptop is encased in a "thin and compact" aluminum chasiss and has an Intel Core i7 quad core chip with Expresscache technology, which provides an extra 8GB of flash memory on the motherboard. This enables faster start-up as well as increasing overall performance.
Web browsing is also two times faster, if you use Microsoft Internet Explorer, that is, while Samsung claims the device takes just two seconds to wake up.
The display uses Samsung's latest 'MAX screen' technology, and the 15in model's display is fits in the package traditionally associated with a 14in model.
The Series 7 Chronos has a battery life of up to nine hours on a single charge and Samsung's Battery Life Plus technology keeps 80 per cent of the cell's original capacity in a life cycle lasting up to 1,500 charging cycles.
The Series 7 Chronos display offers a next-generation HD+ 1600x900 high-resolution viewing experience with Superbright 300nit brightness, 16 million colours and an anti-reflective screen.
It includes an AMD Radeon HD6750M graphics card and Samsung's Soundalive technology as well as an inbuilt 1.3MP HD webcam.
The 14in Series 7 weighs 2.17 kg (4.78lbs) while the 15in model weighs 2.31kg (5.09lbs), and both products are just 23.9mm thick.
An automatic sensor ensures the backlit keyboard and LCD are either dimmed or brightened according to ambient lighting levels.
Samsung has also included two pieces of software designed to improve the user experience. Easy Migration enables data migration from the user's previous PC to their Series 7 using either a USB connection, wired LAN or WiFi network. Samsung's Control Centre also allows full control over the features on the PC.
Damian Cusick, general manager of Computing for Samsung UK and Ireland said, "Following the success of our stunning Series-9 notebook, we are expanding our premium notebook range. With the Series-7, we have matched powerful new features with Samsung's design and engineering excellence to produce a truly special product. Our goal is to create notebooks that constantly inspire and enrich customers' lives. The Series-7 Chronos makes it easier to do more even faster, representing the peak of personal computing."
Samsung will launch the device tomorrow, at which point it will also announce pricing and availability. µ
