Motorola Defy+ will tip up in September

Maybe only SIM free
Tue Aug 30 2011, 12:04

US PHONE MAKER Motorola has announced its Defy+ smartphone will tip up next month in the UK.

In theory you may be able to pick up a Defy+ in two days time when we reach September but this will probably not be the case. The firm has announced the rugged handset will be available in September doesn't know where consumers will be able to buy it.

The firm told us that it hoped to have more information soon, considering it's nearly September already but didn't know which mobile operators would be selling the Defy+.

The smartphone doesn't make an appearance on any of the operators coming soon pages so we contact them to find out for sure.

So far O2 has confirmed it has no plans to sell the Defy+ and we're waiting to hear back from the others. Three has also confirmed that is will not sell the device.

If the mobile operators aren't interested then you will at least be able to get it SIM free from retailers such as Clove.co.uk which says stock is expected late September. It has a price tag of £246 for the phone. Expansys.com has the Defy+ for pre-order but with no price or availability.

The phone will have a 3.7in touchscreen, 1GHz processor, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and 2GB of internal storage, which Motorola doubles by including a 2GB microSD card. The rugged design means the phone is water proof, dust proof and features scratch resistant Gorilla Glass. µ

Water resistant to IP67

I have tested mine in a glass of cider with no ill effects (after I washed it off).

Ingress Protection Numbers tell you how water resistant it is

First Number 6: Totally protected against dust
Second Number 7: Protected against the effect of immersion between 15cm and 1m
