CHINESE PHONE MAKER ZTE has announced it will launch its MF 190 mobile broadband dongle by the end of August, which can connect to the internet in under 15 seconds.
The technology involved is CWID, which stands for continuous packet connectivity, web user interface and driver-free technology. ZTE has developed the technology for data cards using HSPA+ networks.
Because the USB dongle doesn't require any driver installation or specific software, it can establish an internet connection in less than 15 seconds, according to ZTE.
ZTE said, "This new generation CWID data card from ZTE solves the problems caused by different operating systems and operating system versions, and significantly simplifies and speeds up the customization required by operators, further reducing their operating costs and enhancing online service capabilities, in addition to improving the end user's experience."
The company hasn't released a price but confirmed that it will work with all major operating systems. We assume then that this will at least include Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
Although the MF 190 won't come with any software, users will be able to manage the device and online services from a web user interface, which ZTE said could be customised by mobile operators to enable online upgrades and promotions.
ZTE said, "CWID technology will be applied in a number of ZTE mobile broadband products including the 14M, 21M, 42M and LTE data cards, and the MF60 and MF80 3G mobile hotspot products." µ

The ability for operator/government to selectively switch off devices using convenient web interface is an additional selling point.
(not that they cannot do that before, but now it is even easier)
