CANADIAN GADGET MAKER Research in Motion (RIM) has launched a beta of the Native SDK for its Blackberry Tablet operating system (OS), which will allow game developers to code in the C/C++ language environment and take advantage of a deeper API set.

Developers can sign up to participate in a closed beta programme to gain access to the new tools and start creating and porting applications for the Blackberry Tablet OS immediately.

Developers can create rich 2D and 3D games for the Blackberry Playbook Using the OpenGL ES 2.0 API, RIM said on its developer blog.

The Native SDK supports the accelerometer, device orientation and other device features, as well as a number of POSIX compliant libraries, which will help developers port existing games.

The Native SDK includes the QNX Momentics Tool Suite, which is an Eclipse-based integrated development environment. QNX Momentics provides memory profiling, application debugging, and memory usage statistics. It will help developers as they debug sophisticated programs, including hardware accelerated OpenGL applications. µ
