Steve Jobs resigns as Apple CEO

Tim Cook now takes over
Thu Aug 25 2011, 08:39

CELEBRATED POLO NECK WEARER Steve Jobs has resigned from his role as Apple CEO and will be replaced by Tim Cook.

Jobs re-ignited Apple once he had been fired from the firm and re-hired and oversaw its change from a competing hardware provider - with a designer fanbase, to a ubiquitous gadget seller and trend setter.

"Steve's extraordinary vision and leadership saved Apple and guided it to its position as the world's most innovative and valuable technology company," said Art Levinson, Chairman of Genentech, on behalf of Apple's Board in a statement released last night.

"Steve has made countless contributions to Apple's success, and he has attracted and inspired Apple's immensely creative employees and world class executive team. In his new role as Chairman of the Board, Steve will continue to serve Apple with his unique insights, creativity and inspiration."

Jobs' resignation letter has been put online by Apple and it is tinged with regret. The CEO's health has been deteriorating and it seems that he no longer feels able to fill the role.

"I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come," he wrote.

"I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee."

Jobs strongly recommended that Apple carry out the succession plan that its shareholders were so keen it created, and place Cook in the CEO role. He added that he expected this to work out well for the firm.

"I believe Apple's brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role," he added. "I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you." µ

The patent system doesn't need replacing it just needs to be gone it completely stifles innovation and only benefits large companies while handcuffing all small inventor with law suits!

IF YOU DONT LIKE PATENTS

IF YOU DONT LIKE PATENTS, GET ELECTED AND PROPOSE A NEW SYSTEM. OH THAT'S RIGHT, YOU DONT ACTUALLY HAVE A BETTER IDEA.
RATHER THAN RETORT "GO TO HELL YOURSELF", HOW ABOUT THIS GENUINE REBUTTAL: "GO GET ELECTED AND BRING ABOUT POSITIVE CHANGE".
YEAH, I -THOUGHT- SO.

Patents...

@Steve,

Maybe you finally will understand that PATENTS is not good. Do not improve anything to community, only your pockets.

Just imagine how far we could ever reach if there was no medicine patents.

Probably, you will be safe enough to keep alive for more decades.
Celularenginers will be improving longevity life for over few decades more, etc..

Best wishes, and we continue working to bring down this STUPID PATENT WALL that you, M$,etc lobbies made.

Go to hell.-

Actually, BSD Unix and Intel (plus ARM now) saved Apple.

Its own wacky way with in-house OS and PowerPC hardware led straight to well-deserved obscurity, but darn it, they wised up. Besides that, the Chinese build all Apple products: Apple is now just a name.

They'll get mad, but...

Perhaps steve should ask himself if his legacy should be being known as a childish type with fascist tendencies, or even ask himself if there's anything to bad karma and that this might be a time to brace up and stop being so damn pathetic about patents and such.

But still, I hope he survive after all, he might be an ass at times but this disease is just a bit much.
