THOUSANDS OF UNPUBLISHED FILES have been deleted from whisleblowing web site Wikileaks, according to a former spokesman.
According to the BBC, Daniel Domscheit-Berg claimed to have "shredded" the files, telling German newspaper Der Spiegel that the documents included a copy of the complete US no-fly list.
The list contains the names of people who are banned from boarding planes in the US or bound for the US, based on suspected terrorist links or other security reasons.
Domscheit-Berg, who previously worked alongside Julian Assange until the pair had a high profile falling-out, supposedly took the files off Wikileaks' servers when he left the web site towards the end of 2010.
He said he deleted them to avoid their sources being compromised if the files were published.
Wikileaks confirmed the claims on Twitter. It said, "We can confirm that the DDB claimed destroyed data included a copy of the entire US no-fly list."
Wikileaks added that Domscheit-Berg had also deleted five gigabytes of data relating to Bank of America, the internal communications of 20 neo-Nazi organisations and US intercept information for "over a hundred internet companies".
Domscheit-Berg did not confirm the additional claims. µ

It would be nice if someone could post the key to Assange's insurance.aes256 file on the internet.
This DDB is probably on the payroll of some intelligence agency.
"He said he deleted them to avoid their sources being compromised if the files were published."
Excuse me? These "sources" likely went to great lengths and personal risk to get wikileaks this info in the first place
I love how "Domscheit-Berg" thinks he knows better than the sources themselves. And he calls Assange ignorant?
I wonder what other gems of wisdom does this little douchebag have?
The headline should read: "EX-Wikileaks spokesman deletes data".
Nobody at Wikileaks would ever do such a contemptible thing. DDB has destroyed not just the leaked data but also whatever doubts remained about his lack of credibility.
with that known, the data dump can probably be found. Also, since it's been transmitted, there's a trail to what can be construed as a crime. So this is the worst situation of all: crimes committed that put leakers at risk, but no benefit to the public by it being released. It'd be difficult to snarl it up more, leading me to think it's intentional.
This Domscheit-Berg looks suspicious, on top of all the suspicions I still have about Wikileaks. I saw, but forgot where, a message supposedly by Assange carefully distancing from -- or maybe denouncing, rather opaque -- Domscheit-Berg, and the woman who caused his hyphenated name doesn't look any too reliable, either.
More Wikileaks mysteries. I don't deny that they've done some good, but still appears to be an intelligence op...
