IT WAS A CHEAP SHOT but someone was bound to say it. Michael Dell had a go at HP via Twitter, to which HP hit back with a vengeance.
Last week, @MichaelDell said, "HP... They are calling it a separation but it feels like a divorce."
He then later added, "If HP spins off their PC business... maybe they will call it Compaq?"
Even though at this point he had no response from HP, gleeful Michael Dell continued to bash the company, saying, "Goodbye HP, sorry you don't want to be in PCs anymore... But we do more than ever. How would you say goodbye to HP?"
This was the final straw for @HP, which responded, "Not so fast Michael Dell. We are still the #1 PC manufacturer in the world. Our team remains 100% committed."
Michael Dell clearly wouldn't be silenced though. He hit back again, saying, "PC business 100% committed to ownership change to new unknown owner(s) w/unknown strategy, on an unknown time frame."
This was the sum of the tweets so far, but we sort of doubt the exchange is over yet. µ

I seem to recall Mr Dell making some similar dispariging remarks about another company. What was the name again? Oh yeah, Apple.
Michael Dell isn't in position to talk about others. Dell is still struggling to make a realiable smartphone, just think about the Streak and Venue Pro, two smartphones with lots of problems still unsolved. So better to look in your own backyard before accusing others.
