HTC Evo 3D is suffering from crashes

Black screen of death

TAIWANESE PHONE MAKER HTC's Evo 3D smartphone appears to be suffering from crashes for some US users.

According to Android focused web site Phandroid, a handful of Evo 3D users have reported crashes in the form of a 'black screen of death'. The phone's screen apparently goes completely black and the device is unresponsive but the touch sensitive buttons remain lit up.

Occurrences do seem to be few and far between, with Phandroid saying, "this is probably the 5th time I've heard of this issue in our Phantips alone and I felt it was time to give it some attention".

None of the users who reported the problem have rooted or hacked the device in any way and the crashing occurs during normal use. We recently reviewed the Evo 3D and are pleased to say we haven't experienced any problems at all. We also haven't heard of the problem happening outside of the US.

We spoke with HTC about the issue but it doesn't know what the cause of the problem is. It has also not heard of the problem in Europe and suggested that it might be down to a problem with an early batch of the handsets. The Evo 3D was launched in the US back in June.

Phandroid posted a story today saying that the Evo 3D was due to get a software upgrade, which users are saying updates it to Android version 2.3.4, which is what our UK handset is already on. It is unclear whether this update has fixed the crashing problem, with the author opting out of the update due to the fact his handset is rooted. µ

HTC Thunderbolt anyone?

This is an HTC issue not a particular device issue. Anyone else here buy an HTC Thunderbolt? Mine would restart 3x a day.

no shit

No really is that news?
Just because it came out in euroland doesnt mean its news.
If my comment on the evo3d review had not been removed, you would have know about that.
Supposedly you can just disable fastboot and auto reboot and it will stop crashing.
Either way its really hard for HTC to top the evo4g to begin with. Its still feels better and works better than the evo 3d.

same

I have the same problem. The evo 3d freezes up occasionally and the screen goes black but the touch lights stay on. I mostly see a problem when using the camera and turning the display duration to 0 sec. The phone tries to display the last pic taken but then hangs and shuts down. Very disappointing when trying to take a lot of pics when time to get a good pic is short.

Update

My evo3d was doing this when using the camera. After taking a picture it would freeze. You could still push the home button for the camera/image to go away but it would be at a black screen and you would need to reboot the phone. I just received the OTA update so I hope that fixes it!
