THE CAPPUCCINO COMPANY, Apple has released its first update to Mac OS X Lion, less than a month after putting it on sale.
Apple's Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1 update is primarily an exercise in squashing bugs, with the fruit themed company providing relatively few details on what the update provides. In a statement Apple said that the update "includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability and compatibility".
Apple said the Lion 10.7.1 update fixes an issue that would cause system instability when playing a video in the Safari web browser and a bug that would cause loss of system audio when using HDMI or optical audio out. It also cited fixes to data migration from previous OS X installs and an issue that caused the administrator account to disappear when upgrading to Mac OS X Lion. Oops.
Apart from fixing software, Apple has also improved the reliability of WiFi connections, but in its time honoured fashion of making vague statements, it did not say why there was a problem in the first place.
Apple has released a similar update for the Mac Mini server and Macbook Air that addresses the same issues, but in the case of the Macbook Air, resolves an issue that caused the laptop to reboot when it was connected and intermittent display flickering.
Mac OS X users can update their installations by heading over to the software update tool. µ

Well I know most of those who made the upgrade to Lion had zero problems but that was not my experience. I have spent hours and hours trying to straighten out my WiFi connection problem. If you Google this you will see that I was not the only one. So I am hopeful that 10.7.1 will put my issues to rest. I could not have waited much longer and was planning to go back to Snow Leopard today, in fact.
Amazing how quickly the 'apple-bashers' appear with their inane comments about 'security' or the lack of it.
However, to be fair, it's quite understandable that using Windows-compatible computers for long enough can make even the most reasonable of people quite bitter.
... in fact, a quote comes to mind right now:
"I feel like a little fucking worm on a big fucking hook"
If you bait them they will come. :-D
What a load of tosh. It's a very small update, what 45mb or something like that. Not even worthy of x.x.1 update. Carry on smoking the good stuff Lawrence.
@TDR What a ridiculous comment. I've been on the internet for 13 years with various Macs and never once had any problems with security or viruses or any of that stuff you PC lovers love.
The truth of the matter is that its Windows which is about as secure as the Titanic is waterproof.
They need to Improve Security!
OS-X is Swiss Cheese with ~ 4 times the vulnerabilities of Windows XP and 10 times the vulnerabilities of Windows 7.
