Speedier and more secure
Wed Aug 17 2011, 12:42

SOFTWARE DEVELOPER Mozilla has released the next version of its email client application Thunderbird, which it claims is better for speed, stability and security.

Thunderbird 6 is the latest version of the free software application, which is based on the Mozilla Gecko 6 search engine, and Mozilla said it includes several improvements.

For Windows 7 users, there is an updated theme, Jump List support, and better import of email from Microsoft Outlook.

Meanwhile, the default mail client check now works with newer Linux distributions, Mozilla said.

The software developer added that "hundreds of add-ons have also been updated in the new Thunderbird". These add ons, such as the Lightning Calendar, Conversation View, and Open Search can be found in the Add-ons Manager gallery.

Those who want to get the latest version of Thunderbird for Windows, Mac or Linux can download Thunderbird 6 from mozilla.org/thunderbird. µ
