Your puppy is safe, Myspace was not hacked

Business as usual at one time social networker

SUGGESTIONS that the hacktivist group Anonymous hacked social network Myspace last night are unfounded.

Although visitors to the web site were shocked by a strange message last night, the message in question makes a regular appearance on Myspace, well, as regularly as Myspace goes down and people actually notice.

"We messed up our code so bad that even puppies and kittens may be in danger. Please turn back ...now," reads the message before adding, "Have your pet spayed or neutered," as an aside.

Some outlets reported that this was a hack of the web site, something that was fuelled by rumours on Twitter that Anonymous, which has just denied plans for an attack on Facebook, was behind it.

However, the message is not new and has been used by Myspace for some time. Although its joke might be a bit off colour - particularly if you are a pet, it is just that - a light-hearted error message.

A search for the same phrase turns up many results that discuss the message, and many of them date back some time. So there. µ
