INSECURITY AWARENESS TESTING FIRM Microsoft has been hit with another phishing scam after emails were sent telling users that their computers could be compromised.
It came at the same time as Microsoft released its Patch Tuesday vulnerability fixes this week. Just two of the vulnerabilities are marked as critical, and those apply to Internet Explorer versions 6 through to 8 and Microsoft Windows.
The email said, "Micrоsоft rеcеntly rеlеаsе [sic] nеw sеcurity criticаl pаtch thаt аffеct оn аll Windоws vеrsiоns. With this pаtch yоu cаn prоtеct yоur cоmputеr thаt cоuld аllоw аn аuthеnticаtеd lоcаl аttаckеr tо cоmprоmisе yоur systеm аnd gаin cоntrоl оvеr it. Yоu cаn hеlp prоtеct yоur systеm by instаlling this updаtе frоm Micrоsоft. Dоwnlоаd this pаtch by clicking thе link bеlоw."
This is not the first time Microsoft software users have been hit with a phishing scam, of course. Earlier this year criminals exploited fears about the lack of security in Microsoft's Windows and applications software by phoning people's homes and warning them that their systems were at risk.
Most if not all of Microsoft's latest patches will require a system restart and the critical vulnerabilities put systems at risk of remote code execution, denial of service attacks and elevated privileges. µ
Phone number is 1-253-802-0308 it is a scam!!!!
People are as stupid as can be these days.
They keep using the most stupid OS in the world created by the most stupid company in the world. A company that buy's USA parties (both sides) so they won't be prosecuted or convicted for selling the worst products on this planet.
If a doctor would mall-practice like this he would be sentenced to the chair in Bush-country.
Linux is the way to go, but how to show the stupid people that this OS is far easier then Windows and easier to use?
Why do people always choose the bad stuff? With V2000 / Betamax / VHS the same story, it became VHS the worst system of the three of them.
Phishing may not be entirely correct here, but it IS social engineering, playing on the unending weaknesses of Windows.
In fact, ANY computer running Windows IS compromised. God knows what they report back to EVIL HQ. You can't even sure of getting it all by turning off services, because there's always the backdoors...
Sorry, but a "phishing scam" has nothing to do with security. I can send a mass email to the world stating that a new patch from The Inquirer is available, click here to download.
These emails have been going on for a decade and have nothing to do with the patches Microsoft is releasing.
