Apple sues Motorola in Europe over Xoom tablet

Samsung Galaxy Tab is not enough
Wed Aug 10 2011, 14:33

BRINGING SAMSUNG down wasn't enough for fruit themed phone maker Apple. Apparently it is also suing Motorola in Europe over the Xoom tablet's design.

The news comes after it emerged that Samsung has been forced to remove its Samsung Galaxy 10.1 from the shelves due to its similarities to Apple's Ipad.

When it filed for this injunction, it seems Apple also filed a complaint with the same court over the design of the Motorola Xoom tablet.

Apparently, Apple filed a complaint with the same court, the district court of Düsseldorf, over the design of the Motorola Xoom. However, it doesn't state whether that complaint included a request for a preliminary injunction.

While it's not stated explicitly, it is likely that the complaint against Motorola also asks the court for a temporary EU-wide injunction.

Apple and Motorola are currently suing each other over more than 40 US patents.

Apple's dispute with Motorola began in October 2010, but so far it was not known that it has also branched out to Europe, like Apple's disputes with Samsung and HTC. µ

Thomas is right.... + We SHOULD boycott Apple

But on second thought, let the public Boycott Apple. Why? If Apple found out they would likely go crying to some court "They don't like me... They're Stifling Competition by protect themselves against me.They're Anti-competitive in behavior." But seriously, the Android companies really should. I'm just telling my customers "BUY Playbooks, Galaxy Tabs, Transformers, etc, BUT Boycott Apple"! Period. IPads, iPhones. iMacs their whole product line.

Consortium needed

Sounds like it's high time for a consortium of all companies but Apple to band together to protect themselves and each other from this silly abuse of money and the legal system. Apple has done quite enough of this blatant anticompetitive manipulation. Destroying competition destroys freedom and customer choice.

I am not sure how anyone could continue to purchase Apple products and services and still be "comfortable" with the knowledge that they are helping to finance these kind of antisocial acts. Being seen in public with an Apple product may shortly become a socially-stigmatizing situation.

Microsoft has taken a beating from customers over this same type of anticompetitive behavior. There is a moral aspect to everything companies -- and we as consumers -- do.

Spitting the dummy.

Wait, Apple is suing because there is a tablet that looks like every other tablet on the market that bears a vague resemblance to the iPad?

Are they concerned that people are buying "iPads" and think that they are better than the more expensive iPads?
