FRUIT THEMED PHONE MAKER Apple has been granted 20 additional patents by the US Patent and Trademark Office, meaning it will be able to sue even more rivals for nicking its ideas.
The official list published yesterday includes patents on a voicemail manager and integrated touchscreens as well as printed circuit boards, metadata processing and a system that estimates where a computer is located.
The integrated touchscreen patent has to do with touch sensing circuitry integrated with display pixel stacks. Meanwhile, touch sensing circuitry can also include touch signal lines, such as drive lines and sense lines, grounding regions, and other circuitry.
Apple had applied to patent this system in September 2009.
The Voicemail Manager for Portable Multifunction Device patent application was filed on June 28, 2007, which was a day before Apple launched the first Iphone. It covers a multi-touch based GUI for the Iphone that allows users to access voicemail functionality. µ

invented?
you think 'a bar that is slid sideways to unlock the phone' is an invention?
you think 'square coloured icons with rounded corners' is an invention?
you think 'using two fingers to rotate and maninpulate gfx on a touch screen' is an invention?
you think skipping the transplant Q because your a billionaire is...oh wait.. thats the other argument.
wake up and stop acting like a retard.
You call this journalism? Where is your data. I would almost bet you that others have sued Apple more often than they have sued others. They are only protecting their intellectual property, which is protected by law.
@GHodgy
The patents described in the article are US patents that just issued for things Apple has indeed invented.
@thechevron
Apple is merely applying for patents for things they have invented. They wouldn't need to patent any of their inventions if their competitors would stop stealing their inventions in the first place.
@ARW
US patents are vetted before they are issued. During the vetting process, anyone can bring forth evidence of prior art to block the patent from being issued. Don't you think Apple's competitors are doing just this? The problem is, when someone invents something new and novel, it is worthy of a patent and no amount of whining can change it.
Is it just me but if you buy patents from someone else doesnt that by default make it someone elses idea ?
Yet Apple can still take company's to court for copying somethng they never actually designed in the first place
The world has gone crazy sort it out guys
Thank god Apple are not in the lavatory business, otherwise it would not just be the manufacturers crapping themselves.
Shit sticks.
Why don't they just apply for a patent for 'everything' and save themselves a bunch of paperwork
Is it me or does it seem the US are aggressively supporting US business by giving Apple all this legal ammunition....
