MEMBERS OF HACKTIVIST GROUP Anonymous will attack Facebook on 5 November, according to one of its main communications accounts.
News that the group would attack the social networking web site on the day that Guy Fawkes attacked the UK Parliament began popping up late last night and won some traction in the group.
This sudden awareness links back to a Youtube video that includes a typical Anonymous like warning for Facebook. The video was published in late July and is the only content published by a FacebookOps account on that page. "Facebook is the opposite of the Antisec cause. You are not safe from them nor from any government. One day you will look back on this and realise what we have done here is right, you will thank the rulers of the internet, we are not harming you but saving you," it says.
"Think for a while and prepare for a day that will go down in history. November 5 2011, #opfacebook . Engaged. This is our world now. We exist without nationality, without religious bias. We have the right to not be surveilled, not be stalked, and not be used for profit. We have the right to not live as slaves."
So far the video has had just shy of one million views, but its content was initially denied by the @anonops Twitter account which is as much of a trusted source as you could hope for in this case.
"TO PRESS: MEDIAS OF THE WORLD... STOP LYING! #OpFacebook is just ANOTHER FAKE! WE DONT "KILL" THE MESSENGER. THAT'S NOT OUR STYLE #Anonymous", reads a tweet on its page. Another adds, "Important things are happening in the world to deal with quirks like #OpFacebook. Lets keep our style & moral".
However, later the @anonops account was updated with a message that confirmed that the attack was likely to take place. Despite it apparently not being a supported by the group as a whole.
"#OpFacebook is being organised by some Anons. This does not necessarily mean that all of #Anonymous agrees with it", it added.
"We prefer to face the real power and not to face to the same medias that we use as tools. #OpFacebook #Anonymous". µ
This looks like another false flag operation to shift general public opinion into accepting harsher internet censorships, rules on banning people from the internet as well as making more people hate 'hacktivism'. I don't recall any operation being announced that far in the future. Maybe the organizers are hoping some will do the dirty work for them
