ELECTRONICS FIRM Sony had its UK CD and DVD warehouse burnt to the ground amid riots throughout London last night.
Sony's CD and DVD warehouse is located in Enfield, the first area to suffer from the rioting that has engulfed London. The warehouse is Sony's only location to store CDs and DVDs, meaning that it is now reporting possible delays on shipments.
Yoko Yasukochi, a spokeswoman for Sony based in Tokyo said, "There will likely be some impact on deliveries." Yasukochi went on to say, "We cannot determine the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage yet because it's not possible to enter the building."
Sony is still a major player when it comes to entertainment and it seems ikely that vandals torched the warehouse rather than rifling it for a load of CDs and DVDs. Those seem relatively trivial next to reports of high-definition tellys having been looted from shops.
At least Sony shouldn't have to worry about losing personal data. With the CDs and DVDs having been burned, the firm doesn't face a replay of the Playstation Network fiasco. µ

"located in Enfield, the first area to suffer from the rioting that has engulfed London"...
Errr, no, it started in Tottenham a few days earlier. In fact even on Monday night there was trouble in Clapham and various other locations before anyone decided to use this as an opportunity to nick a few things from Sony's Enfield warehouse and then torch the place.
And here's another hot hit from Sony.
The ArcadeFire is on fire.
That was Smoke on the Water.
etc
All of Sony's root kits and DRM up in smoke. What a terrible shame.
Sony claiming $40b loss due to rioters burning disks, claims, 'This kind of mass piracy has to be stopped!'
If this is the same warehouse that the bbc are reporting was burned down (http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/14460204) then it's not just sony that have lost stock, a lot of independent record company's were using it to store their cd's which is a real loss to them as we should be supporting our local record shops and labels.
