HTC opens its developer portal

Including APIs for 3D display and stylus
Tue Aug 09 2011, 11:15

TAIWANESE PHONE MAKER HTC has opened its developer portal at HTCdev.com that offers early access to the Opensense software development kit (SDK).

In a bid to help developers, the popular phone maker has set up a developer portal to help get the apps flowing. The web site is live now and provides access to both the Opensense SDK and kernel source code for HTC phones.

HTC said on Facebook, "Hey Devs! Our developer portal went live today! Currently on HTCdev.com you can check out an early access version of the OpenSense SDK for the 3D display on Evo 3D, the Tablet Pen used with HTC Flyer and also download kernel source code for HTC Android devices with even more to come. The site is also the future home of bootloader unlock process. Check it out!"

The Opensense SDK includes all HTC SDKs and provides application programming interfaces (APIs) for features such as the stereoscopic display on the Evo 3D smartphone and the stylus pen that comes with the Flyer tablet.

These early access parts are available as two Android SDK add-on extensions and include sample code along with the APIs. HTC said, "Over time, HTCdev will be supporting new features and additions to the OpenSense SDK to enable deeper integration into the HTC Sense experience."

There are pages dedicated to developing for Android and Windows Phone. As HTC said in the post, the web site is where its handsets' bootloader unlocking will tip up, but we don't know when that will appear. µ
